Intermediate Stained Glass Copper Foil with Kate Grady – 2025

This intermediate course will guide students through creating a more advanced stained glass panel using the copper foil method. Building on foundational skills, students will focus on refining their cutting, grinding, foiling, soldering, and framing techniques. The course will be taught over two days, with each day focusing on more intricate methods. Projects will be approximately 12″x 12″ in size, and a pattern will be provided to students prior to class.

Class has a maximum of 6 spots to allow for more one-on-one time with the teacher.

 

Where: The Hot Spot @ Rainbow Art Glass’ Warehouses
Requirement: Students must have completed the Beginner Copper Foil course within the last 2 years

Note: All materials need to be purchased at least one day prior to 1st class

1st Class:
Date:  Thursday, June 19th, 2025 9:30-3:00

  • Review tools and terminology used in intermediate stained glass work                                                                                             
  • Review the pattern project (students will follow the same design)
  • Cut all glass pieces from the pattern
  • Use grinders to smooth and refine glass pieces
  • Prepare projects for Day 2 copper foiling

2nd Class:
Date: Friday, June 20th, 2025 9:30-3:00

  • Finish grinding if necessary, and apply foil to the glass pieces
  • Review the proper panel assembly and solder the panel together
  • Discuss different types of framing
  • Choose a patina color and polish project
  • Discuss finished pieces and take home the completed project
Course Fee: $199.95 TOTAL for both days

What to Bring: All of these materials can be purchased at our warehouse for discounted prices for students! (Feel free to bring your own tools if you already have them.)

 

  • Glass Cutter – Carbide Wheel
  • Metal Running Pliers
  • Soldering Iron 80W or 100W
  • Spool (1#) 60/40 Solder
  • 1 Roll of 7/32″ Foil – Copper or Black Color
  • Grozier (Combo) Pliers
  • Small Bottle of Liquid Flux
  • Flux Brush
  • Foil Stick for Burnishing Foil
  • Black Marker and White/Silver Marker
  • Strip (6′) of 1/4″ U Zinc, Copper, or Brass (only need 1 strip, but any of these metals are fine)
  • Approx. 2 square feet of colored glass (scrap glass in our showroom is perfect to use

Approx. Cost for above materials – $100 (most of the cost is iron, cutter, and grozier, which will be good to use for many, many projects).
