Panel Lamp Workshop
This 2-Day Intermediate Level Coarse will teach students, whom have prior stained glass experience, to work in a three-dimensional layout. After choosing your design pattern, each student will cut, foil, grind, solder, and than assemble each panel of the lamp. This coarse will be taught over two Thursdays with each class capitalizing on different skills. Each student will leave the 2nd class with a finished panel lamp ready to be mounted on a base. We will offer lamp bases at reduced prices for students.
1st Class:
Date: Thursday, August 21st, 2014, Time: 5:30 PM – 9:30 PM
- Choose patterns for lamp
- Frame out panel for precise measurements
- Cut, grind, foil your glass pieces
- Solder all individual panels
2nd Class:
Date: Thursday, August 28th, 2014, Time: 5:30 PM – 9:30 PM
- Begin by finishing any soldering that was not completed in 1st class
- Learn two styles of assembly, taping and wedging
- Solder panels together both tack and final
- Remove flux
- Patina /polish for finished look
- Bring completed lamp to warehouse for base match-up (optional)
What to Bring: All of these materials can be purchased at our warehouse for discounted prices for students! (Feel free to bring your own tools if you already have them)
- Glass Cutter – Carbide Wheel
- Soldering Iron 80W or 100W
- Spool (1#) 60/40 Solder
- 1 Roll of 7/32″ Foil – Copper or Black Color
- Grozier (Combo) Pliers
- Small Bottle of Liquid Flux
- Flux Brush
- Foil Stick for Burnishing Foil
- Black Marker and White/Silver Marker (depends on what color glass you choose)
- Approx 2-4 square feet of colored glass depending on size of lamp (scrap glass in our showroom is perfect to use)
- Vase Cap – size will be determined after 1st class
