Intermediate Lead Panel Construction
This course is a continuation of our Intro. to Lead Panels Class. It takes the basic skills learned in the construction of small panels, and incorporates that into a larger panel utilizing re-bars for extra strength. Each student will make a large project using more complex lead techniques than the intro class. This course will be limited to 5 – 6 students only due to the area needed for the large projects.
Part 1 – Discussion and Design (1.5 hours)

Go over the techniques and tools that will be taught and used

Discuss contemporary lead panels and their functions in today’s architecture

Review the design each student has chosen and refine them for lead use

Show the differences in color use and grain flow for this type of panel construction

Will choose colors in our warehouse for this project
Part 2 – Cutting and Grinding (3.5 hours)

Cut pieces to fit pattern

Pieces will be ground to fit into lead channel
Part 3 – Leading (glazing) your Design (4 hours)

Will be taught the most efficient and strongest method of leading (glazing) your project

A refresher course in how to cut lead strips, use saws, and hand tools

Students will cut all their lead strips to conform to their design

Glaze the entire project with the supplied compound by our staff
Part 4 – Final Touch-up, Soldering, Re-bars, and Polishing (4 hours)

Utilize glazing hammers and lead knives to make any final aesthetic adjustments

Using straight edges – all lines and intersections will be set properly

Solder every intersection point on front and back

Whiting powder will be used to clean and polish cemented lines

Depending on design, re-bars will be applied and soldered for strength

If desired…will show how to polish and/or frame the project
Max number of students: 6 (minimum of 5)
Minimum age requirement: 16 years old
Cost per student: $199.00 for all 4 parts

Part 1 – Wednesday, February 25th ’15 – 5:30pm – 7:00pm
Part 2 – Saturday, February 28th ’15 – 10:30am – 2:00pm
Part 3 – Saturday, March 7th ’15 – 10:00am – 2:00pm
Part 4 – Saturday, March 14th ’15 – 10:00am – 2:00pm
