This 5 day, 15 hour (or less depending on number of students) next level course takes students past the basic intro to glassblowing techniques by working individually and with a team to explore more complex shapes. Students will start off making a glass cylinder and then branch out to learn vases, bowls, and long neck bottles with hands-on demonstrations in every class. There will be many different days and times available.

Day 1: 3 hours IMG_2119

  • Start out by making cylinders as a refresher
  • Learn steps to improve cylinders
  • Use Jacks and Tweezers and shears to make lips and upper walls of a vessel thinner
  • Learn more about color interactions and how they can effect your overall shape
  • Demo a straight walled vase

Day 2: 3 hours

  • Steps to converting a basic cylinder to a straight walled vase
  • Learn how to use gravity to your advantage
  • Learn the art of spinning out a piece on the pipe
  • Create vases
  • Demo a glass bowl

Day 3: 3 hours

  • Steps and skills on making a glass bowl
  • Introduction to new shaping tools such as parchoffis and common newspaper.
  • Learn how to open a straight walled vessel to a tapered bowl
  • Complete a blown bowl, while also learning how to be a gaffer and assistant

Day 4: 3 hours

  • Students will learn steps in making a long neck bottle
  • Practice pulling necks on clear bottles with jacks
  • Transferring to the punty and completing your bottle
  • Learning how to assist by paddling lip of vase while gaffer opens the lip

Day 5: 3 hours

  • Continuing cold-working, grinding, dremeling
  • Critique and discuss your work

 

Students per class: Maximum of 3 (but can be 1 or 2)
Course Fee: $450.00/student (includes all materials/tools)

Private – $495.00/student (total of 5 hours with 1-on-1 instruction)
Semi-Private – $475.00/student (total of 10 hours with 1-on-2 instruction)
